Why eyebrow work is its own discipline
Eyebrows are the most technically demanding transplant zone per square centimetre. The hairs are single, exit the skin almost parallel to it, and change direction along the brow, upward near the nose, horizontal through the arch, angling down at the tail. There is no density to hide behind: every graft is visible, so every graft must be a single follicular unit placed at exactly the right angle and direction.
Grafts are taken from the scalp, selected for the finest calibre available, and placed with implanter pens one hair at a time. Because scalp hair keeps its growth cycle, transplanted brows grow longer than native brow hair and need regular trimming, a small, honest trade-off for brows that are real, permanent and yours.
Who typically seeks it
Years of overplucking that never grew back, natural thinning with age, brows lost to scarring or burns, patchy tails, or simply brows that were always sparse. The design session before the procedure maps your preferred shape, drawn on, adjusted and agreed in the mirror before a single graft is placed.
Eyebrow loss linked to alopecia areata or skin conditions needs medical review first, a transplant into unstable ground fails, and we will say so.
Candidacy
Is an eyebrow transplant right for you?
Typically suitable if you…
- Have overplucked brows that stopped growing back
- Have thinning tails or patchy sections
- Have scars from injury or previous procedures in the brow
- Want a fuller shape without daily makeup or microblading touch-ups
- Have realistic expectations about trimming transplanted hairs
May need a different plan if you…
- Have active or unstable alopecia areata affecting the brows
- Have untreated skin conditions in the area
- Recently had microblading, pigment and healing may affect planning
- Expect zero-maintenance brows, transplanted hair needs trimming
Candidacy is confirmed through your photo assessment, this list is general guidance, not a diagnosis.
Benefits and honest limitations
Benefits
- Real, growing hair, not pigment that fades or blurs
- Shape designed with you and drawn before the procedure
- Single-graft DHI placement at near-flat, brow-correct angles
- Small donor take, a concealed strip at the back of the head
- Short procedure and fast social recovery
Limitations
- Transplanted hairs grow at scalp speed, trimming becomes routine
- Texture can differ subtly from native brow hair
- Density builds over months; a touch-up session is sometimes wanted
- Final shape and density are judged at 12+ months
Procedure day
What happens, step by step
- 1
Design
Brow shape drawn, adjusted and agreed with you in the mirror, symmetry checked from every angle.
≈ 45 minutes
- 2
Local anaesthesia
Donor zone and brow area numbed; the injections sting briefly, then comfort.
≈ 10 minutes
- 3
Extraction
Fine single follicular units taken from a small concealed strip at the back of the head.
≈ 1 hour
- 4
Graft selection
Units sorted under magnification, only single, fine-calibre hairs go to the brows.
≈ 30 minutes
- 5
Implantation
Hair-by-hair placement following the drawn design, angles shifting along the brow.
1–2 hours
- 6
Aftercare handover
Written protocol, healing timeline and your follow-up schedule.
≈ 20 minutes
Recovery and growth timeline
- Days 1–5: tiny crusts along the brow; mild redness fades day by day.
- Days 5–10: crusts clear; brows look clean but still sparse.
- Weeks 2–8: transplanted hairs shed in the normal shock-loss phase.
- Month 3: regrowth starts; brows fill progressively.
- Months 6–12: density and shape mature; trimming becomes part of your routine.
- Month 12+: final result, this is when brows are photographed and assessed.
Risks and possible complications
Risks are low and local: temporary redness, swelling, small crusts, itching, and rarely folliculitis or poor take of individual grafts. Because the zone is small, aftercare is simple, but precision matters, so follow the written washing and touch-avoidance instructions exactly. An emergency line is available if anything concerns you.

Questions
Eyebrow transplant, frequently asked questions
How is this different from microblading?
Microblading is pigment in the skin, it fades, blurs and needs refreshing. A transplant is living hair that grows. Many patients come to us precisely because they are tired of maintaining pigment. The trade-off: real hair needs trimming.
Will I need to trim my new brows?
Yes. Transplanted hairs keep their scalp growth cycle and grow longer than native brow hair. A quick trim every week or two keeps them in shape, most patients find it a minor habit.
How natural will they look?
Naturalness is decided by angle and direction. Brow hairs lie nearly flat and change direction along the brow; single-graft DHI placement reproduces that pattern. Once grown and trimmed, well-placed brows read as brows.
How many grafts do eyebrows take?
Typically a few hundred per brow depending on existing hair and the design, far fewer than scalp work, which is why the procedure is shorter. Your assessment gives exact numbers.
When will I see the final result?
Regrowth starts around month 3 after the normal shedding phase, fills through months 6–12, and the final shape is assessed from month 12. Anyone promising final brows in weeks is not being straight with you.
Can you fix brows after bad microblading or scarring?
Usually, yes, grafts can be placed through or around scarred and pigmented tissue, though healed skin quality affects take rates and the plan may be more conservative. Send photos and the team will give you an honest read.
